LIKE A GERSHWIN TUNE?

Fish and music: that is what Citrus County has long been known for. There was that momentary attempt to start a sugar business, as represented by the historic Yulee Sugar Mill ruins, an enterprise doomed by poor timing, but the bass fishing has long enticed the tourist, and the singing has long entranced the local as both performer and audience.

For three days at the end of July, the Citrus Community Concert Choir will perform its 4th annual Summer Concert presentation:
I Like a Gershwin Tune... How About You?.

Under the direction of Jacki Doxey, and accompanied by Harry Hershey on piano, the group will perform on three days at three locations. The opening performance is on Friday, 27 July at 7:30 pm at the First Baptist Church of Inverness, with a second performance two days later at Faith Lutheran in Lecanto at 2:00 pm, with the final show on Tuesday, 31 July, again at 7:30 at the First Baptist Church of Crystal River. Admission is $10, with children 12 and under admitted free and the contact numbers are (352) 628-3492 and 382-7071.

The two hour show has one intermission and features six sections of Gershwin stylings. The CCCC Inc. is a non-profit organization of about 45 members and at the Sunday performance will present its 4th annual $1000 scholarship to a graduating Citrus County High School or college student who is pursuing study in the music field- preferably the vocal arts.

Founder Jacki Doxey is the Music Director at Faith Lutheran Church in Lecanto and is also currently the music director for The Music Man at the Citrus County Art Center Theater (Closing Sunday) and musical director for the upcoming season opening Three Penny Opera at Playhouse 19 in Crystal River opening September 13th.
