THE VISITOR

Those who follow me on Facebook have seen a couple of shots over the last months such as this one...

This little fellow, or one looking like him, has been flitting into my house several times over the last couple of years, and I have always been torn between scaring him and trying to get the picture; but mostly, just trying to help him find his way out.

This evening, I was out on my covered deck trying to find an old graphics card cause I suspect that is what is broken in my desktop, when this guy landed on the drooping corner of the screen over one of the openings (top left in the photo) and stopped upon seeing me. I calmly told him to get out- he knows better, he's going to get stuck again etc etc...

Instead, he hopped down to another level, jumped back and forth among the various things stored out there, all as I continued to advise his exit.

Surprisingly, he was actually moving to positions that were closer to me.

Then I spotted something in his mouth, something rather large. On his next hop, dangerously close to me I would think, I saw that it was a large bug.

I stopped talking and went still: I was starting to have suspicions.

He came closer and closer and then perched on the edge of a wooden drawer that is on one of the shelves of my tool storage case, just right of center there, the shelf below the one with the matching white containers.

I remained absolutely still.

After a moment, he slipped inside, out of sight, and out of mutual view.

A moment later, he reappeared, mouth empty.

He jumped again from location to location and worked his way back to the droopy screen (which I would have secured the other night if I weren't so limited by my cast at the moment) and after sitting there for a moment apparently deciding if it was safe to leave with me still there, flew off.

I immediately hopped forward carefully on my good ankle and looked into the shelf box. Do you see it? I was being quick so as to create minimal disturbance.

So. I guess it is she. (And there are four.)

I just made a little adapter ramp thing from the ultra thin paneling I took off the walls (cut it with a utility knife) to "gentle" the transition for the scooter over the door sill  The floor level changes that is why I put the stoop there, but it is a big jerky hump for the scooter and can rattle my filled Pepsi cup and cause spills. Much nicer now- more like a very mild rumble strip. Put the larger rubber backed bath mat over it to hold the two pieces in place and further smooth it.

Oh! PS!!!

While I was waiting at the VA yesterday, and further refined this morning, I have designed a very simple and cheap lift mechanism for my getting my scooter onto the car-carrier! Would be much nicer if I could weld, but can be built without it. Small, light, easily attached and removed, and used; and working on one detail to make it work not only on the back of the carrier, but also in the trunk for when I don't use the carrier but just stick the small scooter in the trunk.

LATE BUT HE'S BACK!

Sorry about the blur, but it was dusk and I was wobbly on my crutches as I zoomed and anxious he would bolt at any moment!

ECV ACCESSORY

In Florida, you wear sunglasses. Just a given. There have been days when the sun is so bright and penetrating that I have desperately looked for my sunglasses only to find out I already had them on!

But, when I go in the stores, I need to take them off- as well as my regular glasses so I can see up close while checking out items. I have out of necessity simply tucked them in the neck of my shirt, but this has never been really satisfactory, so I decided I would get something to give me a place to store them on my scooter when needed, and thanks to a helpful employee at my local Walmart, I found these clip on small bottle holders in the sporting goods section and they fit both my over-sized sunglasses and regular glasses just right! So, I drilled a couple of quarter-inch holes in the frame of my seat and voila!
